Getting 1 african grey from a pair

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am looking to be a new pet owner and am getting some knowledge transfer from a Parrot Charity in town here. I can only visit them on some weekends though.

I have come across 2 21-month old African greys that are a mates. The owner died and the daughter is selling them as pair or single bird. What I want to ask is that how much of a risk it is to get one bird out of a pair. Also, the birds are far enough that I cannot meet them before making a decision. we were only looking at getting a single bird so e cannot get a pair.

Why I am not getting a baby african grey is purely due to cost.

It is unlikely that they are a pair at this age, they may be siblings. Hard to know what to advise you as i believe meeting the birds before making a decision as one bird may be more comfortable with you then the other. The birds often select their own humans.

If they're bonded, they will mourn their loss. Is there a way that you could work out a deal to take them both rather than to have them separated? I'm thinking about their well-being as a bonded pair.
